One of the biggest mistakes we make when it comes to exercise is assuming there is one “right” workout for everyone.

There isn’t.

Your ideal workout depends on your current fitness level, goals, strength, mobility, energy, experience, available equipment—and even how you’re feeling that day.

I often say we are all snowflakes. We don’t come to a workout with the same sleep, stress, hydration, energy or recovery. So your workout shouldn’t always look exactly like someone else’s.

The good news? There are plenty of ways to build strength, improve cardiovascular fitness and support longevity at every fitness level.

🌱 BEGINNER: Start With Movement & Confidence

If you’re new to exercise, returning after a break, or simply don’t feel comfortable in a gym yet, your goal isn’t to crush yourself.

Your goal is to build consistency.

Start with movements such as:

  • Bodyweight squats
  • Sit-to-stand from a chair
  • Wall or counter push-ups
  • Step-back lunges or supported lunges
  • Glute bridges
  • Bird dogs
  • Walking
  • Gentle mobility work

You don’t need heavy weights to begin building strength.

For resistance exercises, try 1–2 sets of 8–12 controlled repetitions or 20–30 second intervals.

And modify! A push-up against a wall is still a push-up. A step instead of a jump is still movement.

The best workout is the one you can do consistently.

💪 INTERMEDIATE: Build Strength & Challenge Yourself

If you’ve been exercising consistently and have developed a foundation of strength and movement, it’s time to gradually increase the challenge.

This is where resistance training becomes especially important.

Try incorporating:

  • Dumbbell squats
  • Lunges
  • Romanian or single-leg deadlifts
  • Dumbbell rows
  • Chest presses
  • Shoulder presses
  • Push-ups
  • Core circuits
  • Resistance-band exercises

You can also begin incorporating circuits and supersets to make your workouts more efficient.

For example:

Goblet squat → push-up → reverse lunge → dumbbell row

Perform each exercise, rest, and repeat.

You don’t necessarily need heavier weights every time. You can increase the challenge by:

adding weight + adding repetitions + increasing time under tension + slowing the tempo + reducing rest.

Progress doesn’t have to mean going harder.

Sometimes it means going smarter.

🔥 ADVANCED: Strength + Conditioning

If you’re already strong and exercise regularly, you can combine strength training with cardiovascular conditioning to create efficient, challenging workouts.

This is where workouts like Tabata, metabolic circuits and supersets can be incredibly effective.

For example:

4-Move Full-Body Circuit

Goblet squat + jump
Close-grip push-up
Alternating lunge
Hinged dumbbell row

Try:

30 seconds work + 15 seconds rest

Complete the four exercises twice for one 8-set Tabata.

Rest and repeat.

You can increase the challenge by:

  • Using heavier weights
  • Increasing work intervals
  • Reducing rest
  • Progressing push-ups
  • Adding explosive movements
  • Completing additional rounds

But here’s an important reminder:

Harder isn’t always better.

Your workout should challenge you without consistently leaving you exhausted or compromising your recovery.

🦵 Don’t Forget the “Little” Things

Regardless of your fitness level, there are areas of fitness that tend to get overlooked.

Core

Your core isn’t just about getting visible abs. It helps stabilize your body while you lift, walk, run, balance and perform everyday activities.

Mobility

Strength is important—but so is your ability to move through a healthy range of motion.

Balance & Stability

These become increasingly important as we age and can help us remain confident and independent.

Knee & Hip Strength

Strong muscles surrounding your knees and hips can help support movement and keep you doing the activities you enjoy.

Cardiovascular Fitness

Walking, cycling, swimming, hiking, dancing and interval training can all contribute to cardiovascular health.

🧠 The Secret: Progress, Not Perfection

Your workout doesn’t have to look like someone else’s.

Maybe today you have the energy for heavy squats and a challenging Tabata.

Tomorrow, you might need a walk, mobility session and some gentle strength work.

Both count.

The goal—especially as we get older—isn’t simply to burn calories or make the scale move.

We’re building something much more valuable:

Strength. Muscle. Mobility. Balance. Cardiovascular fitness. Resilience.

These are the things that help us continue to travel, hike, carry groceries, climb stairs, get up from the floor, play with our grandchildren and live independently as we age.

❤️ Choose the Workout That Meets You Where You Are

Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced, don’t compare your workout to someone else’s.

Meet yourself where you are—and then work toward where you want to be.

Start where you are.
Modify when you need to.
Progress when you’re ready.
And most importantly, keep moving.

Because fitness isn’t about being the best in the room.

It’s about becoming stronger, healthier and more capable for the life you want to live.

Every woman who walks into a gym, steps on a scale, or reviews her lab work is carrying something completely different.

Different hormones.
Different stress.
Different genetics.
Different sleep.
Different nutrition.
Different life experiences.

That’s why I often tell my clients: “We’re all snowflakes.”  No two snowflakes are identical, and no two women are either.

You didn’t wake up today with the exact same body, energy, or recovery capacity as the woman next to you. Maybe she slept eight uninterrupted hours while you were awake worrying about aging parents or a sick child. Maybe you’ve entered menopause, have Hashimoto’s, lipedema, or you’re recovering from an injury. Maybe you’re thriving. Maybe you’re just surviving.

All of those things matter.

Yet we continue to compare ourselves.

We compare our weight.
Our strength.
Our pace.
Our wrinkles.
Our metabolism.
Our progress.

But comparison ignores the most important variable:

Your starting point is yours alone.

Stop Chasing Someone Else’s Finish Line

Social media makes it easy to believe everyone else has figured it out.

The truth?

You rarely see the full picture.

You don’t see their genetics.
You don’t see their medications.
You don’t see their stress levels.
You don’t see their lab work.
You don’t see their struggles.

Trying to compare your Chapter 3 to someone else’s Chapter 20 is exhausting—and unfair.

The Best Health Plan Is Personalized

One-size-fits-all fitness doesn’t exist.

The “perfect” workout for your friend may leave you exhausted.

The diet that helped someone lose weight may not support your hormones.

The supplement everyone raves about may not be what your body needs.

Even your blood work should be interpreted in the context of you—your symptoms, your lifestyle, your age, your goals, and your medical history.

The healthiest women aren’t necessarily doing the same things.

They’re doing the things that are right for their bodies.

Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection

Instead of asking,

“Why don’t I look like her?”

Ask,

“Am I stronger than I was three months ago?”

“Am I sleeping better?”

“Do I have more energy?”

“Am I nourishing my body?”

“Am I building muscle that will serve me for decades?”

Those are the questions that truly move the needle on longevity.

Be Your Own Greatest Comparison

The only person worth comparing yourself to is the woman you were yesterday.

Celebrate every victory.

Every workout.

Every healthy meal.

Every pound lifted.

Every walk taken.

Every good night’s sleep.

Every choice that moves you toward a stronger, healthier future.

Because your journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be successful.

It only has to be authentically yours.

Your Challenge This Week

The next time you find yourself comparing your body, progress, or health journey to someone else’s, pause and remember:

You are a snowflake. Wonderfully unique. Beautifully designed. Entirely incomparable.

Honor your journey, trust your process, and keep becoming the healthiest version of you.

YOU got this, snowflake!
